ABOUT PROJECT

Moray Place is A listed and considered to be one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain.

The property has undergone a rear extension, marrying restrained contemporary detailing with the classical elegance of its historic surroundings.

Working to protect the property’s heritage, our design team introduced a quietly confident bronze intervention to the rear elevation. Paired with finely crafted glazing elements by our sister company, Vale Garden Houses, the extension subtly modernises the property without disrupting its original rhythm or balance.

To draw natural light deep into the interior, bespoke rooflights were installed, offering vertical illumination and a striking architectural punctuation to the space. These overhead elements transform the character of the rear rooms, enhancing volume and atmosphere while creating a moment of architectural clarity in an otherwise tightly composed rear elevation.

The project also features top opening casements set above the fixed frames, with outward-opening slim-profile doors flanked by fixed side lights. Glazing bars with traditional beading provide a tailored finish. Every detail was considered to ensure consistency with the existing building while also allowing the new addition to read as confidently contemporary without diminishing the past.
