ABOUT PROJECTSt John’s College in Oxford is a Grade 1 listed historic institution with over five centuries of academic excellence, required a glazing solution that vastly improved comfort and energy efficiency within the hall while meeting strict conservation standards.
As part of the renovation works to the Dining Hall we were comissioned to make and install bronze secondary glazing using our Heritage window system.
The four-metre-high bronze-framed windows were designed in a sectional format to mirror the layout of the existing windows, and incorporated a side hinged central opening light within each, to allow full access for cleaning the original windows and for ventilation.
Our Heritage system was chosen for its fine sightlines and ability to accommodate large-scale, complex openings without intrusive framing. The system’s discreet design provided measurable improvements in insulation and acoustic control while maintaining full visibility of the original windows.
The work was carried out under approval from English Heritage and received an award from the Oxford Preservation Trust for its high standard of design and installation.
